dreamcatcher

Dreams are hours of a life lived in a different dimension than the world of the watch. In the world of dreams, we can fly high like birds, migrate to distant places in fractions of a second, return to childhood and recreate our world from our most intimate expectations. Marcel Proust and Federico Fellini worked brightly on dreams in different media.

The dream world is the only refuge when reality becomes unbearable. How many people in prisons or psychiatric institutions can only support their lives by closing their eyes to enter their private world? Why are they in these prisons, with or without bars? I don’t care. The act of dreaming is the protagonist of this story.

Julian is an extremely handsome man looking to be in his late twenties. We see him sleeping with an expression of contentment. A thin light beam in the darkness suggests that the day is about to dawn. We immerse ourselves in his dreams that mix various phases of his life like shuffled playing cards or pieces of a puzzle that tells the story of his life out of chronological order: children surrounded by their parent’s attention and affection on a beautiful beach; exploring the wonders of the ocean on diving; watching the sunset with his lovely wife in the Atacama desert; toasting with Orientals at Felix, the panoramic restaurant on top of the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong; dancing with the bride on their wedding day; as a child playing at school; carrying the newborn child; graduating at university. In the midst of these images, supernatural creatures like mermaids sometimes appear; other times he makes fantastic leaps as if he had the mobility of a giant kangaroo. Among his dreaming, pieces of soft music play and we see flashes of his expression of pleasure when dreaming.

We focus on his sleeping face. But this time the sun has already risen and hits Julian’s eyes, making a gesture as if to avoid opening them. Finally, he begins to open his eyes little by little. Julian follows the beam to the “window”. But when the intensity of the light softens, the grids are defined. Julian turns on his side and covers his head with the pillow. Sound goes up playing What a wonderful world.
